The Pretty Boy from Reckless Endangerment

Q: Who or what are you?
I'm an upstanding citizen in Denver, Colorado. I have connections that reach far and wide. I have breakfast with the Governor, lunch with the mayor. I'm the kind of man every woman hopes her daughter would marry.

Q: What is your cause about?
I'm an entrepreneur.  Let's face it; there are some people who don't deserve a voice. They're trash. If they're weak, then that's not my problem.  My cause, as you call it, is about creating an underworld empire where those who are deserving get whatever they want, whenever they want it.

Q: What’s the most important thing in your life right now?
Two things are most important to me right now: money and teaching nosy reporters their place.

Q: What do you like or dislike about the other characters from your book?
Their goodie-two-shoes, holier than thou attitudes about the world. Some people call them heroes, but I scoff at that. Just like morality, everyone bends the term hero to fit their preconceived agendas. Maybe I'm a hero in my own world, did anyone think about that?

Q: Where do you live? Describe it: Is it messy, neat, avant-garde, sparse, etc.?
I live on an estate in a gated community to keep out the low lives.

Q: What's the worst thing someone ever did to you?
Told me 'no'.  No one denies me.  I always get what I want.

Q: What's the worst thing you've done to someone?
Again, this is a matter of perspective. What someone else may see as 'worst thing', I see as business. I've smuggled humans across borders and state lines, killed a few people and am currently using a six year old as a pawn. But, really, who cares? Like I said, I'm an upstanding citizen. I've got power...what else matters in the world?

Q: What type of places do you hang out in?
I hang out in the finest clubs with the most beautiful women...and in the darkest of alleys with the whores.  I go where I want, do what I want.  It's called privilege.

Q: What annoys you more than anything else?
Weak people and busy bodies.

Q: What would be the perfect gift for you?
I'm in the market for a new jet so that would be nice.  I could use one.

Blanco - Leader of the Death Tribe from Beware of the White

Who and what are you?

My name is Blanco. I am the leader of the Trepidus, affectionately referred to by other Underworld beings as the death tribe. We are superior creatures responsible for all after death clean up. On occasion we are instructed to take care of the death itself. We do so by smiling at the victim.

What is your cause about?

Our species has been dealing with the after death practices of the Underworld forever. Clearly with that sort of command over life and death, we are the superior species around here. I feel it is time we take on a position of power. Instead of all this sappy, ‘let’s all just get along,’ peace crud.

How did you become antagonistic?

I was born a Trepidus. It’s how we are. We are solitary creatures of superior intelligence. Our species used to be the Guardians of Life; with glowing skin and shiny hair. Other beings weren’t terrified of Guardians like they are of Trepidus. Guardians were responsible for all after death duties as well, but also had the ability to resurrect worthy beings.

Who are your family?

My parents were Guardians who may or may not have been involved in the incident that led to us being relegated to the Trepidus. My nephew is Finny – the traitorous scum who keeps helping that stupid girl, Terra – the one named in the prophecy as the only one who can defeat me. Yeah, whatever. Death is my business. Do you think I can be defeated?

What do you like or dislike about the other characters from your book?

Honestly I don’t like anything about them except that they are simpletons who can so easily be controlled without even realizing it. But that’s my secret. Let’s not share that with the others. I dislike plenty. The city of Concord is a peaceful, cooperative place. That drives me nuts. Everybody always smiling at each other and helping and waving. Argh! Clearly they need to be challenged perhaps even threatened.

What do you hope nobody ever finds out about you?

If I told you, then people would find out, so clearly I won’t be admitting my secret weapons to you. But let me assure you, I do have secrets and they are the reason I am far superior in cunning and intellect to my fellow Trepidus.

What’s the worst thing someone ever did to you?

It astounds me that the pathetic girl, Terra, has decided to continue her Underworld training knowing that I want to eliminate her. Is it the ‘worst’ thing? Only until I dispatch her. Then it will become a bad memory.

What is the worst thing you’ve done to someone?

My business is death. Does it get any worse than that?

What would the perfect gift for you be?

Clearly not a mirror. It has nothing to do with my appearance, but more to do with…wait, it’s best not to finish that thought. I wouldn’t want you to be armed with too much information.

If you could change anything in your book, what would it be and why?

I would take a page out of my pathetic excuse for a nephew’s book and show up at Introquarters on Terra Harmoner’s first night of training. And I’d smile at her.

About Beware of the White:

As is tradition, Terra learns on the Saturday past her twelfth birthday that she is a Natures Spirit. It is her legacy to serve in the peaceful underground city of Concord. Learning she is named in a prophecy and being threatened by the leader of the death tribe…that part breaks tradition.

The Trepidus are the death janitors of the Underworld, responsible for delivering fatalities with a smile and cleaning up after themselves until Blanco, recent leader of the Trepidus, decides the day of reckoning for his species is coming. He begins organizing the creatures and leads them toward an uprising. The prophecy says there is one person who can stop him. Terra.

With Spirit of Security, Frank, protecting her, Terra attempts to complete her training and discover her Spirit talents. Together, they go on a rogue investigation to learn how to defeat Blanco. In the end, it comes down to a battle of the minds. The future of Concord is at stake. Will Blanco, the older, more experienced being win? Or will Terra, the young, new Spirit earn back the peace of the city?

Fyren - The Shifting Nightmare in The Dream Keeper

Q: Who or what are you?
A: My name is Fyren, but you can call me your worst nightmare. I am a shifter from the dark side of Dreams and I can turn into anything you fear most. Normally I like to don the image of Death. I find the skeletal form and black hood very suited for scaring mortals.

Q: What makes a good servant?
A: A good servant is loyal, submissive, and disposable.

Q: What is your cause about?
A:  My cause is noble and great. For too long Dreamlings have been subject to the whim of mortals. We exist only to please their subconscious. I offer freedom for all Dreamlings, good or bad, Favor or Nightmare. I seek to bring down the boundary separating the realm of Dreams from the realm of Awake. Once the boundary is broken Dreamlings will have the power to overtake the mortals and rule. Of course I will be the supreme master. But we must continue to have order in our new world.

Q: What’s the most important thing in your life right now?
A: I need to capture the rogue dream keeper, Gladamyr. Without his sacrifice the spell to bring down the boundary will not be satisfied. As of now he has avoided the takeover at the Crossing but I have a plan to make him come willingly.

Q: How did you become antagonistic?
A: Like most nightmares I was born this way. However, there is a time when every being must decide what is most important…for me I chose power. Oppression of the weak is the only way to gain that. It’s not that I’m bad, I’m just an opportunist.

Q: What do you hope nobody ever finds out about you?
A: As if I would be willing to share that information with a mortal. The very idea that you would ask such a question is comical. You are fortunate enough that I have taken the time out of my world domination to answer your pathetic inquiries. Next question.

Q: What do you like or dislike about the other characters from your book?
A: Fondness for others is a weakness. So there are few that I will openly say I like. Mab, my second in command is one exception. She is not only beautiful but she has a wicked heart that is close to mine. She is not hesitant when inflicting pain and she is purely devoted to the cause. I dislike any who are opposed to me. Gladamyr and his sidekick teenagers are just a few of the feeble that will be removed when my reign begins.

Q: What do you find most relaxing? (Not as in stress relief, but as something that actually calms you down.)
A: I find the horrifying screams of children the most satisfying sound in the world. The only other thing that comes close is killing. Yes those things do calm me.

Q: In your opinion, what is your best feature?
A: The best future is the one in which every mortal, even down to the last weeping child, is under my control.

Q: What would be the perfect gift for you?
A: Gladamyr’s head on a platter. Throw in the mortal kids hanging out with him and I’ll promote you from slave to servant.

Q: Do you have any pets? Do you want any pets? What kind?
I have one pet, Minyon. Really he is a whining, pathetic excuse for a nightmare, but he is loyal. If I had his gifts I’d be even more fantastic. The dreamling is composed of nothing but spiders. He can detach remnants of himself and be my spy in many places. What is the use of having a pet if it isn’t good for something, right?

Q: What annoys you more than anything else?
A: Annoying mortals asking too many questions. Is this interview over? I have a world to terrorize.

Q: What's the worst thing you've done to someone?
Keep asking the questions and you’ll soon find out.

Imogenia - Murdering Daughter of Hercalon IV, King of Oomaldee

Q: Who or what are you?  My name is Imogenia.  I’m the daughter of Hercalon IV, King of Oomaldee.  I was killed by my younger brother, Kaysan, when I was 17.  I am now a spirit.

Q: What is your cause about?  Plain and simple…  Revenge!

Q: What’s the most important thing in your life right now?  Revenge!

Q: How did you become antagonistic?  My little brother, Kaysan, killed me when I was 17 because he was jealous that I would inherit the throne upon our father’s death.

Q: What do you hope nobody ever finds out about you?  Well now, if I told you, you’re going to tell all your listeners/readers and it won’t be a secret anymore now will it?

Q: In your opinion, what is your best feature? I’m very sweet when I want to be.  Just don’t cross me (said with a snarl).

Q: Where do you live? Describe it: Is it messy, neat, avant-garde, sparse, etc.?  I live in the old stone castle where my brother, now King Hercalon V, also lives.  My parents and I live there to monitor the effectiveness of a curse I had put on the land 500 years ago to punish him for murdering me.

Q: What's the worst thing someone ever did to you?  My brother murdered me.  It doesn’t get any worse than that.

Q: Read any good books? What were they?  As a matter of fact, yes.  I have lots of time for reading, seeing as I’m a spirit with no schedule to keep.  I love reading YA romance novels.  I never got to experience true love in the land of The Living.  I regret that.

Q: What annoys you more than anything else?  My father working against me to break the curse by sending that little Andy Smithson to the land.  Argh!!!

Q: What would be the perfect gift for you?  Andy Smithson’s head on a platter.

Q: What do you find most relaxing? (Not as in stress relief, but as something that actually calms you down.)  Seeing Andy fall into big problems…  the bigger the better.  I loved it when he got caught in quicksand.  Almost got rid of the little pest.  Would have too if it weren’t for his pal, Alden.  There were the people-eating giants, and that lovely little fire-breathing dragon…  Oh and I can’t forget that lovely battle between Andy and King Abadodn that was very nice to watch. I was rooting for Abaddon the whole time. Thought Andy was dead for sure, but those two statues came to life and got him out of the mess.  Argh!  Always so close.  Don’t worry though.  I will be rid of that kid once and for all, very soon.

Q: If you could change anything in your book, what would it be and why?  I would be rid of Andy Smithson quickly.  I realize that would spoil it for the readers, but my life would be so much more peaceful.

About the Author:
Since the age of eight, L. R. W. Lee knew she wanted to write a book. Fortunately or unfortunately, she required of herself that she have something significant to say; she sought to contribute to others in a way that could change their lives. Because a degree in Accounting at Cedarville University, as well as work in public and corporate accounting, did not provide riveting fodder for a best seller, she waited. Upon selling her business in early 2012, she had time to write and, more importantly, something significant to share.

L. R. W. Lee’s favorite musical is The Sound of Music. She hates scary movies, but loves piano and strings music, sunsets in Hawaii and a good cup of decaf, French press coffee (yes, decaf!). She also loves Ansel Adams prints and all manner of kinetic art.
